OpenCollar is an open initiative, open to any contributor or team, to design a virtual fence collar anyone can build, with open integration so any software can connect to it. OpenCollar.
The openpasture software is ours: virtual fence software with a first-party OpenCollar integration, and an agent that decides each day's move. Open source, so you can host it yourself. The software.
Neither needs the other. We think they're best together.
Open, and still a business.
We open the collar specs, the collar integration, and the software, because more people building on it means more farms on pasture. Every farmer keeps the right to build, repair, and run what they own. The software is AGPL-3.0, so a company that builds a service on it has to publish its changes.
We make money by hosting the software and selling assembled OpenCollars. Later, premium extensions in the subscription, our own collar with the same open integration, and counterweight attachments whose designs and repair guides we'll publish too. Pricing.
Two sheep and a slope.
Cody bought two sheep to clear an overgrown slope behind the house. There was no perimeter fence, so he used electric netting.
The incline made it slow to move, hard to ground, and never quite right. The real limit was one person moving animals.
He looked for a collar he could buy as a tool and write software against. None came on terms he wanted to own. So he started building one, and the software to move it.

In order, dated where we can.
Sheep first, cattle next, poultry later on its own hardware. The collar has target dates: prototype complete by mid-October, the V1 design final by the end of 2026, and the first batch to early adopters in Q1 2027. The rest is in order, not yet by date.

Prove it on a farm. The long-term target is pasture-raised within a dollar a pound of grocery, like for like. Nothing is measured yet.
Software that exists today. The openpasture app and server, v0.1.0, under AGPL-3.0. Collars don't report over cellular yet, so it runs against simulated ones for now. Download.
What this isn't.
Not a launch, a fundraise, or a result. A for-profit prototype, described plainly, built in the open.
